Minimising our impact

All our operations are certified to the standards ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 50001:2018.

Plus, we are constantly seeking new ways to improve our sustainability performance, through energy efficiency measures, avoiding pollution and minimising or recycling our waste.

Reusable energy

All electricity used is provided from renewable sources, and 2 of our production facilities are heated through energy reclamation of our own waste wood. Carbon dioxide emissions from manufacturing and heating have been reduced by 92% from 2016 to 2020.

Sustainability

  • 28% reduction in kg CO2 per cabinet in the last 5 years from transport
  • 92% reduction in kg CO2 per cabinet in the last 5 years from heating/manufacturing
  • Reduction of > 700t of carbon dioxide through the installation of LED lighting
  • 100% renewable electricity in all production facilities and stores
  • Two manufacturing sites heated by waste from energy boilers (incinerating waste wood)
  • Joined the science-based target initiative
  • Saved 87.24 acres of Peruvian rainforest in partnership with the Cool Earth initiative

Fuel-efficient fleet

We recently introduced a new vehicle fleet incorporating the fuel-efficient Euro VI engine. We are also working towards more efficient logistics, ensuring that lorries are fully loaded for their return journey. Through these initiatives, we have already reduced overall transport emissions by 28%.

Reusable timber

As a PEFC™ & FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council® FSC®-C100100) certified company, we use only softwood timber from responsibly managed forests in our cabinets. We are also actively developing products from responsible sources and ensuring all timber waste is reused or recycled.

Packaging

By reducing the amount of packaging we use, and using offcuts to heat our factories, we have virtually eliminated waste being sent to landfill. We also believe strongly in the ‘every little helps’ principle with initiatives including recycling IT and upcycling of waste chipboard material.

Product Development

We always look to develop new sustainable products we are particularly proud of ‘The InSinkErator’. This is a sink disposal system that enables food waste to be flushed away and recycled rather than sent to landfills.

Sawdust

The production of sawdust is an unavoidable aspect of our manufacturing processes, but is provided to a third party for reuse.

Waste management

Solid panel waste either incinerated to provide heating, sold as a raw material to a third party for reuse or recycled via a third-party waste company
