How to paint kitchen cabinets

Begin by removing all hardware and thoroughly clean the surfaces to be painted, using a mild detergent to remove grease and grime. Sand the cabinet surfaces with fine-grit sandpaper to create a smooth base for the paint. Apply a high-quality primer to ensure proper adhesion, and let it dry completely. Choose a durable kitchen-friendly paint in a finish of your choice—satin or semi-gloss works well for cabinets. Use a high-quality brush or a paint sprayer for an even application. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next, and sand lightly between coats for a smooth finish. Reattach hardware once the final coat has dried completely.

How to organise kitchen cabinets

Start by decluttering and removing items you no longer use. Group similar items together, such as pots, pans, and utensils, and designate specific cabinet areas for each category. Consider using storage containers or adjustable shelving to maximise space and create a tidy arrangement. Arrange frequently used items at eye level for easy access and less-frequently used items on higher or lower shelves. Utilise door-mounted organisers for spices or small items, and invest in stackable containers for dry goods. Label containers to make finding items effortless. Regularly assess and declutter to maintain an organised and functional kitchen cabinet space that suits your daily needs.

Where to put knobs and handles on kitchen cabinets

It's essential to maintain both aesthetic appeal and ergonomic functionality. For cabinets with doors, position the knob or handle approximately 2.5 inches from the bottom corner of the door, placing it on the side opposite the hinge for a balanced look. On drawers, centre the knob or handle both horizontally and vertically. Ensure consistency by aligning knobs and handles at a uniform height throughout the kitchen for a cohesive appearance. Consider the size of the cabinet or drawer when selecting the appropriate hardware – larger units may benefit from longer handles for a proportional look. Ultimately, the goal is to strike a balance between visual harmony and practicality, allowing for comfortable use of the cabinets in your kitchen.

How to clean kitchen cabinets

Start by mixing a solution of warm water and a mild detergent. Using a soft cloth or sponge, gently wipe down the cabinet surfaces, paying attention to areas with built-up grime or grease. For stubborn stains, create a paste with baking soda and water and apply it to the affected areas, then scrub gently. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the cabinet finish. Dry the cabinets thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth to prevent water damage. Finish by polishing wooden cabinets with a suitable wood cleaner or polish for added shine and protection. Regular maintenance will keep your kitchen cabinets looking pristine and prolong their life.
