The project was set up to help support a Solihull local, Rob Lamb, who was left paralysed from the chest down after suffering a severe spinal cord injury last year. The 58-year-old dad of four was keen to return home to his family following the accident but his injuries were so severe that the house needed special adaptations to ensure it was practical and comfortable for Rob, which is where Magnet CKS stepped in to donate the new kitchen to the project.
A team of 60 volunteer tradespeople, arranged by Band of Builders, worked on the house over the course of nine days, with one of the main alterations being the new, state-of-the-art kitchen courtesy of Magnet CKS. The new kitchen features Magnet’s Luna Matt Grey units which perfectly complements the on-trend, grey backsplash tiling and flooring. Nebraska oak laminate worktops were included to match the colour scheme of the room, and integrated appliances were also factored in to create a seamless flow throughout the space. The cleverly-designed rise and fall system for both the sink and cooker hob means that the kitchen is immediately more accessible for Rob as he begins his recovery journey at home.
Andy Gould, Sales and Operations Director at Magnet CKS commented: “We were extremely sorry to hear about the devastating impact that Rob’s injury has had, so when Band of Builders got in touch to see if we’d be able to help, it was an immediate yes. Our design experts were keen to create a practical, yet beautiful, new space for the Lamb family to enjoy and we hope it provides the family with a focal point of the home to relax and socialise in.”
Gavin Crane, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Band of Builders, said: “When we heard about Rob’s story, we were keen to offer our assistance and coordinate a project that would make living with his injury that bit easier. Every project we do always makes a huge difference to our beneficiaries' lives and this one is no different. Rob and his family have been through a difficult time after losing Rob's wife Julie suddenly in 2017 and now his accident, so we just wanted to do what we could to help.”
“We couldn’t do what we do without the support of businesses like Magnet CKS. We’re extremely grateful for all of the resources and time that people have kindly donated to aid in Rob’s home transformation. We know that this renovation will make a huge difference for the family and look forward to hearing how they get on with their new space”.
