After a patriotic year in 2012, we have never been so proud to be British.

This got us thinking about heritage and how there’s nothing better than a classic, British, timeless design for your home – do you agree?

Magnet’s Somerton collection is nothing but a classic design, which we love and it fits well with any home style. It brings the colour of the English countryside with its deep earthy tones and kitchen finishes.

Incorporate colours such as green and blue into the kitchen, they are the ‘it’ colours of 2013 after all. Whether you choose this for your kitchen cabinets, have a splash of paint on the wall and even if you just accessorise with coloured kitchen appliances.

Trends rapidly change every year, with streamline, handle-less kitchens being another top choice at the moment, but classic kitchens such as the Somerton will never be off-trend and go out of style.

Reclaim your heritage and put the traditional back into your kitchen.

Kitchens are not only the heart of the home, but also the social hub. From family meal times, to coffee mornings, to parties, the kitchen is the place to be in the home

We’ve pulled together some expert advice to ensure you create your ideal social space…

    1. LAYOUT

Create a social hub in your kitchen for friends and family by adding an island unit or a breakfast bar. This will define the area, create space and make it more sociable for guests. Introducing a wrap around seating area as shown in The Astral Crème will ensure there’s lots of comfy room for guests to sit and relax.

    2. LIGHTING

A variety of lighting in the kitchen is a great way to change the overall look and atmosphere of the space. Plinth lights can be added to create a stunning effect and LED spotlights in blue or white can create a funky party vibe.

    3. APPLIANCES

Wine coolers are a welcome addition when hosting. Not only can you create your very own mini wine cellar, but these handy appliances will keep the white wine crisp and chilled, and the red wine slightly warm.

American fridge freezers have plenty of space making them ideal for large families and storing platters of food for parties.  Some even come with icemakers ensuring your guest’s drinks are always ice cold.

Don’t forget about having a coffee machine in your kitchen. It’s the perfect appliance to not only perk you up on a morning, but will give your guests a real café culture experience for those long overdue catch-ups.

A steaming hot water tap, such as the InSinkErator HC1100 is a great appliance for a sociable kitchen. It saves lots of time and energy when you’re cooking and even when making a cuppa. No need to boil any water or wait for it to heat on the hob, just a pull of the handle and 98-degree and cold filtered water is all yours.

    4. FINISHING TOUCHES

Finishing touches like the Elica Star cooker hood are not only practical, but very stylish and on trend for 2013.  As well as looking glamorous in the kitchen, the Elica Star also provides the function of removing steam, smells and airborne food/grease particles during cooking and will no doubt be a talking point with guests.

Cocktail bar brackets are a great way to increase the space of your work surfaces and will also provide a handy area for guests to leave drinks.
